Arabian Cowrie (Mauritia arabica)

Natural Arabian Cowrie shell, known scientifically as Mauritia arabica.

Recognisable for its rich brown to chestnut colouring with darker markings and a pale underside, this species has the smooth, high gloss finish typical of cowries. The patterning varies from shell to shell, giving each piece its own distinct character.

These shells are vintage shop stock from a coastal gift shop that closed in the 1980s. They have been stored for decades and are not recent imports.
