Vintage 1950s–60s Seaside Shop Stock
An exceptionally large Syrinx aruanus, commonly known as the Australian Trumpet.
At 500mm in length, this is one of the largest sea snail species in the world. Its elongated spiral form and heavy construction give it remarkable presence. This is not a shelf accent but a centrepiece.
Its scale makes it particularly suited to larger interiors, display cabinets, or as a standalone object on a console or table.
A Mid Century Seaside Provenance
This shell was originally sold in a tourist shop in Seaton, Devon during the 1950s and 1960s. It was supplied through Italian importers who sourced shells from coastal regions around the world, a common practice for British seaside businesses of the period.
Stored for decades, it is now being offered once again. Natural and unprocessed, it represents a tangible piece of mid twentieth century seaside trade and travel.
