Natural Hump Backed Cowrie shell, known scientifically as Mauritia mauritiana.
Recognisable for its rich reddish brown colouring with darker markings and pale underside, this is one of the larger and heavier cowrie species. The surface has the smooth, porcelain like finish typical of cowries.
Natural Common Delphinula shell, known scientifically as Angaria delphinus.
Recognisable for its sculptural, spined form and spiral structure, this species has a strong, architectural appearance. Colouring typically ranges from creamy white through to pale pinks and soft browns, often with subtle banding.
These shells are vintage shop stock from a coastal gift shop that closed in the 1980s. They have been stored for decades and are not recent imports.
