The Glass Pyramid

A little piece of Axminster Carpet history, given a new life.

These 50mm clear glass spheres once had a very different job. They came from the old creels at the Axminster Carpet factory, where they played a small but important part in the carpet making process.

The creels were made up of around 14 sections, each containing approximately 500 tubes. Wool was blown by air into the long hexagonal tubes, with the glass spheres helping to keep the wool contained inside as it was fed into the carpet making process.

When the old equipment was dismantled, we rescued thousands of the glass spheres rather than seeing them go to waste.

We've given them a new purpose as these unusual glass pyramids. Each one is assembled by hand here at Devon Fox, using the original glass spheres and a base made by us.

• So what looks like a simple glass ornament has a little bit of Axminster's carpet making history sitting inside it.

• Four 50mm clear glass spheres
• 10cm high and  10cm wide
• Each pyramid is individually assembled
• Includes a small information card telling the story of the spheres

Please note: The glass spheres can focus sunlight. Keep the pyramid out of direct sunlight and away from windows where sunlight may fall directly onto it. For decorative use only. Not a toy.
